Jamestown College graduate serves at Betty Ford funeral

Cherry Remboldt

Jamestown College graduate Cherry Remboldt was a celebrant at the funeral of former first lady Betty Ford.

The Rev. Cherry Remboldt, Rancho Mirage, Calif., served as a celebrant at former first lady Betty Ford’s funeral on July 12 at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Palm Desert, Calif.

“It was a privilege to know Mrs. Ford, and I was honored to participate in the celebration of her life,” says Cherry, a 1974 graduate of Jamestown College.

Cherry, on staff at St. Margaret’s, was with her husband, Hank (a 1972 Jamestown College graduate), in Minnesota when she received word of Mrs. Ford’s passing and was asked to return to California at the request of the Ford family.

Former President Gerald and Betty Ford retired to Rancho Mirage in 1977 after leaving the White House. Cherry says the Fords were active members of St. Margaret’s and gracious to all fellow parishioners.
